CoTaSS 2 Follow-up study – IRD Bio-bank

The Colombo Twin and Singleton Follow-up Study (CoTaSS2), which is a ‘population based twin study of psychiatric disorders and metabolic syndrome in Sri Lanka’ was one of main projects completed during the year 2015-16. DNA extractions were carried out from 3483 samples of whole blood samples of twin and singleton participants and stored in -80°C freezer (IRD Bio-bank). In this project, DNA extractions were carried out using QIAGEN Flexi Gene DNA Purification Kit and DNA quantification was done by NanoDrop 2000 spectrophotometer. The integrity and the purity of DNA samples were checked using agarose gel electrophoresis. The ethical approval for the sample collection and the entire COTASS 2 study was obtained from Kings College London, UK and the Sri Jayewardenepura University Ethics committee, Sri Lanka. This research was funded by Wellcome Trust – UK.
